October 12, Monday – Madrid, Spain
Tried to go shopping, but all the stores were closed because of a holiday.* Came back to hotel & loafed all day -- weather was terrible out.
* The holiday was Dia de la Hispanidad, emphasizing Spain's connection to the Hispanidad, the international Hispanic community, which was first celebrated on October 12 (the anniversary of Columbus' landing in America) in 1935. It's been a national holiday in Spain since 1981, and the name was changed to Fiesta Nacional de España in 1987.
This seems like another good day to post a photo of another page of Mom's passport, with passport stamps. These are for September 19 through October 15.
