Mark with a Mustache, 1973

This is the only photograph of Mark Gresham with a mustache that exists (as far as I know).  He said it was for a mustache-growing contest in San Marcos, Texas, in 1973, when he was 32.  I think it was probably for the annual Chilympiad chili-cooking contest that had started in 1970, held in San Marcos in September.  The local chamber of commerce sponsored the event in those early years, and Mark served on its motel room tax committee while he was city manager there.

Memories for Mother's Day

This isn't specifically a memory about Mother's Day, but it is a memory of my mom, and her mother, my maternal grandmother.  This photograph of Sara Melzina Wolfe Guokas Archibald (1907-1997) with her daughter Geraldine Margaret Guokas Pape (1929-2019) was taken in Fredericksburg, Texas, in September 1993.  Mom and Dad had moved into their new post-retirement home there (at 1003 Avenue A) just the month before, and over the course of a few days, both of my grandmothers, my maternal aunt, and all of my siblings came to visit them.  I flew down from my then-home in Lynnwood, Washington, for the same few days that overlapped with their visits.
