Happy Birthday, My Love

Mark Gresham would have turned 83 today.  This photo was taken at Bell's Studio in Corpus Christi, Texas.  I think it may be from 1946 - although the shirt he is wearing is similar, Mark looks a little younger here than he does in his 1947-48 Travis Elementary first grade picture.  Bell's Studio is listed in the 1946 Corpus Christi city directory.

  1. I went to Southgate Elementary 57-63 and I remember Travis. Southgate was one of the old wood frame schools and was damaged in Hurricane Carla(?) and torn down. My Jr. High, Northside was demolished to build the new courthouse.

Your late husband would have been about 10 years older than me, but I imagine Corpus was pretty much the same in the 1940s, when my folks moved down here from central Texas.

The school picture evokes that era -girls in dresses. They could only wear pants if it was freezing. I'm not sure, but I don't think boys in T-Shirts would have been allowed here either. Great memories. Thank you
