Sentimental Sunday: Rho and Mare, Christmas 1953

My first cousins Rosemary "Rho" Streff Grandusky and Marianne "Mare" Streff Gustafson, at either Christmas 1953 or 1951 (Dad was home at 2093 West Lunt Avenue in Chicago, Illinois, on leave from the Air Force, both times).  I think it is 1953, because Mare would have been only 21 months old if it was 1951, and she looks a little older than that in this photo.

Friday's Faces From the Past: Rho and Mare, June 1953

Final shot of my cousins Rosemary "Rho" Jean Streff Grandusky (1949-2016) (in front) and her sister Marianne "Mare," in June 1953.  This photo was taken in the backyard of the home of my grandparents, Paul Robert Pape Sr. (1896-1970) and Elizabeth Florence Massmann Pape (1902-2000), at 2093 West Lunt Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.

The image is from a Kodachrome slide I found in the study of my late father, Frederick Henry Pape (1929-2017), and was most likely taken by him.

Wedding Wednesday: Rho, Grandpa, and Mare - June 1953

My grandfather, Paul Robert Pape Sr. (1896-1970), and his two oldest granddaughters, Rosemary "Rho" Jean Streff Grandusky (1949-2016) and Marianne "Mare" Streff, flower girls at the double wedding on June 13, 1953, of Grandpa's youngest daughters, Marilyn "Beete" Electa Pape Hedger to James "Jim" Edward Hedger (1933-2010), and Rose Mary "Moe" Pape Dietz (1931-2007) to Ronald Joseph "Das" Dietz (1931-1994).  This photo was taken outside the wedding location, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois.

Sentimental Sunday: Nana and Grandpa (and Bud and Betty), April 1953

My grandparents, Elizabeth Florence Massmann Pape (1902-2000) and Paul Robert Pape Sr. (1896-1970) in April 1953 on the front steps of their home at 2093 West Lunt Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.

Below is the Kodachrome slide the image above was cropped from.  It was found in the study of my late father, Frederick Henry Pape (1929-2017), who probably took the photo when he was home on leave from the Air Force, enroute from Korea to Ellington Air Force Base in Houston, Texas.  Check out the folks in the upper right corner.

That's my uncle and aunt, Frank James "Bud" Streff Sr. (1925-2014) and Dad's older sister Elizabeth "Betty" Mary Pape Streff  (1927-2017).  Looks like she is feeding him something.

Wedding Wednesday: Rho, Bud, and Mare, June 1953

My uncle, Frank James "Bud" Streff Sr. (1925-2014), and his two oldest daughters, Rosemary "Rho" Jean Streff Grandusky (1949-2016) and Marianne "Mare" Streff.  Rho and Mare were flower girls at the double wedding on June 13, 1953, of Dad's and Betty's younger sisters, Marilyn "Beete" Electa Pape Hedger to James "Jim" Edward Hedger (1933-2010), and Rose Mary "Moe" Pape Dietz (1931-2007) to Ronald Joseph "Das" Dietz (1931-1994).  These photos were taken outside the wedding location, St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church in Chicago, Illinois.

Below is the Kodachrome slide the image above was cropped from.  It was found in the study of my late father, Frederick Henry Pape (1929-2017), who probably took the photo.  I think that may be my Aunt Betty, Elizabeth Mary Pape Streff  (1927-2017), who was a bridesmaid in the wedding, talking to the young man on the right.

Friday's Faces From the Past: Buddy and Mare, June 1954

My first cousins, Bud and Mare, in June 1954, on the ledge on the front porch of the home of my grandparents, Paul Robert Pape (1896-1970) and Elizabeth Florence Massmann Pape (1902-2000), at 2093 West Lunt Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.  This image is from a Kodachrome slide I found in the study of my late father, Frederick Henry Pape (1929-2017).  My parents, who were engaged at the time, had traveled to Chicago for the wedding of Dad's older brother, Paul Robert "Bob" Pape Jr. (1926-2008), as Dad was the best man in the wedding.

Sentimental Sunday: Bud and Buddy, June 1954

My Uncle Bud, Frank James Streff Sr. (1925-2014), with his son, my cousin Buddy (Frank James Streff Jr.), at the front steps of the home of my grandparents, Paul Robert Pape (1896-1970) and Elizabeth Florence Massmann Pape (1902-2000), at 2093 West Lunt Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.  The photo above was cropped out of a Kodachrome slide I found in the study of my late father, Frederick Henry Pape (1929-2017). Dad took the photo sometime after the wedding of his older brother Bob and my Aunt Lorrie on June 19, 1954.

Tomorrow, July 1, would have been Bud Sr.'s 94th birthday.

Friday's Faces From the Past: Mom and Two Future Nieces, June 1954

Here are a couple more pictures from the time of Uncle Bob and Aunt Lorrie's wedding day, June 19, 1954.  In the photo below, you can see my mother, Geraldine Margaret Guokas, peeking between two of her future nieces, my first cousins Marianne ("Mare") and Rosemary ("Rho") Streff.

It looks like Mom was holding onto the girls to keep them from falling from the ledge on the front porch of the home of my grandparents, Paul Robert Pape (1896-1970) and Elizabeth Florence Massmann Pape (1902-2000), at 2093 West Lunt Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.

Mom was engaged to my dad, Frederick Henry Pape (1929-2017), and came to Chicago with him from Houston for the wedding of his brother Bob, where Dad was best man.  These images were cropped from Kodachrome slides I found in Dad's study, and were probably taken by him.

Wedding Wednesday: Mare and Betty, June 1954

Another picture from Uncle Bob's and Aunt Lorrie's wedding day, June 19, 1954:

In the photo below are a priest (perhaps the one who married Bob and Lorrie), Lorrie's uncle Nicholas Francis Olker (1900-1982), my cousin Marianne Streff (who was perhaps a flower girl in this wedding), and her mother Elizabeth "Betty" Mary Pape Streff (1927-2017).

This image is cropped from a Kodachrome slide found in the study of my late father, Frederick Henry Pape (1929-2017).  He was the best man for his brother Bob and probably took this picture.

ETA:  Marianne says the priest might be Father Felix Penna, "who was a family friend after being at Mayo Clinic with Grandpa and who got the family started on [saying] 'St. John Bosco, pray for us' [at the end of grace] etc."  I believe she is right.  He married my parents, and may have married all of Dad's siblings.

Sentimental Sunday: Bob & Lorrie's Wedding, June 1954

Another photo from the wedding of my aunt and godmother, Dolores "Lorrie" Frances Olker (1929-2005), and my dad's brother, my uncle and godfather, Paul Robert "Bob" Pape Jr. (1926-2008), on June 19, 1954.  From the left, Nicholas Francis Olker (1900-1982), Lorrie, Bob, Anna Dorothy Grundhoefer Olker (1905-1991), Elizabeth Florence Massmann Pape (1902-2000), Paul Robert Pape (1896-1970), and the groom's niece (who was perhaps a flower girl), Rosemary Jean Streff Grandusky (1949-2016).

Lorrie's parents, Frank Anthony Olker (1899-1949) and Eleanore Helen Becker Olker (1905-1936), died before the wedding, so her uncle and aunt stood in for her parents.

This is from a Kodachrome slide found in the study of my late father, Frederick Henry Pape (1929-2017), who was the best man, and probably took the photo.
