Memories for Father's Day

This isn't specifically a memory about Father's Day, but it is a memory of my dad, Frederick Henry Pape (1929-2017).  For many years, he volunteered as a referee for youth soccer games in Houston, Texas.  It was a great way to stay in shape, too, as he had to run up and down the field along with the boys.  This photo of Fred Pape as a soccer referee was taken at the St. Francis de Sales Soccer Club 1979 Thanksgiving Tournament in Houston.  Dad would be thrilled about the World Cup games currently taking place in the Dallas and Houston areas, as well as the rest of the country, Canada, and Mexico.

  1. We are soccer lovers at our house, and enjoying the World Cup. Hubs and son love it more than I do, but it is the one sport I don't complain about. I like the non-World Cup games the rest of the time simply because they have more theatrics rolling around on the field. (Though I do not mean that all injuries are exagerated...I've had to pay for surgery for a soccer knee injury for son back in the day.) I agree that it is an amazing way to stay in shape, and your dad had the cute legs to prove it. :)
