A picture from 40 years ago! Breathless is reading an E&B Marine Supply catalog on Contigo, his 27-foot 1969 Pearson sailboat he'd bought about a year earlier. I used this rather blurry picture to make a READ poster in a 23 Things activity on online image generators that my library did way back in 2008.
Does he still have the boat?
ReplyDeleteAleksandra, no, he doesn't. He too a job in Grand Prairie, Texas, in 1985, but would continue to travel to Corpus Christi (six hour drive!) occasional weekends to sail it. At least, that was the plan - he found that he was spending more and more of those weekends on maintaining it than sailing it. So he sold it around 1990. He actually co-owned another sailboat (22' Catalina) with his best friend in CC, so when he could get down there he'd maintain/sail that one instead, until he moved out of state in 1993. Ultimately bought out his friend and gave that boat to his son in 2001.
