Church Record Sunday: Charles Thomas Guokas III Sacramental Records

Recently I stumbled across some unindexed records at FamilySearch.org for Catholic churches my mother and her ancestors were parishoners of in Houston, Texas.  Using some indexes built into the documents, as well as some paging to appropriate dates, I found records for a number of relatives.

Here are the sacramental records for my uncle, Charles Thomas Guokas III (1927-1999):

Above:  The handwritten index in the records at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Houston, Texas, for Baptisms, 1924-1939, showing Charles Thomas Guokas (sixth line) and G. M. (Geraldine Margaret) Guokas (last line).

Below:  Baptism record, on February 5, 1928, record #8 below.  He was baptized a little over a year after his birth on February 6, 1927.  His godfather was his uncle, Roy Lee Guokas (1917-1959) and his godmother looks like Margaret Theode - which might be Margaret Caroline Thoede McConnell (1916-1969).  On the same page, at #12, is Charles' first cousin, Kenneth Marvin Joseph Johnson (1926-1930), son of his aunt Elizabeth Wanda Guokas Johnson Sayers (1901-1980) and her first husband Jesse Wayne Johnson (1900-1929).

Above:  First Communion at St. Joseph Catholic Church, May 9, 1937.  Charles' record is #9 in the left-hand column.  The record of my mother, Geraldine Margaret Guokas Pape, is at the bottom right.

Below:  Confirmation class of 1938 at St. Joseph Catholic School, Houston, Texas.  Geraldine Margaret Guokas Pape is the sixth person from the left on the second row from the top.  Her brother Charles Thomas Guokas III is seated on the front row; he is the fourth boy from the right.

Above:  A closeup from the previous Confirmation class of 1938 photo, showing Gerrie and Charles.

Below:  Confirmation at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Houston, Texas, May 15, 1938.  The record for Charles is at the bottom #17.  His confirmation name is Peter - which, interestingly, is the middle name of his father, Charles Jr. (1903-1967) and grandfather, Charles (Kazimieras) Sr. (1863-1939).  A Thomas A. Breed was apparently the sponsor for all the boys.
